David Jin

PhD Student, Yale
I am currently a PhD student in neuroscience, specializing in computational neuroscience and brain imaging. I enjoy watching the NFL and NBA, and am interested in the MLB as well. I am interested in finding the most “well-rounded” players and determining teams’ ability to win in the absence of big-money, because everybody loves a do-it-all underdog. I am also interested in sports history: sports didn’t build themselves in a day, and their stories should reflect that.
Sports: Football, Basketball, Baseball
Article interests: I am interested in using analytics and contingent evaluation to determine player value, developing new player metrics, sports history, and sports medicine.
Michaela Ennis

PhD Student, Harvard
I am currently a PhD student with a background in computer science, who spends way too much time watching football in the fall. I spent a summer as a football analytics intern with the Jacksonville Jaguars (coincidentally right when they turned around), and hope to continue to dabble in sports analytics. My extended family has had Giants season tickets for generations, resulting in some pretty great tailgates.
Sports: Football
Article Interests: Football (obviously), Sports Analytics, Fantasy Sports, Sports Betting
Sam Olbur
Regional Manager, Hot Shots Sports LLC/ Youth basketball coach.
Formerly employed by the Chicago Bears. Passionate and knowledgeable about all things NBA, MLB, NFL. (in that order) Enjoy watching soccer and consider myself extremely informed about all things Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Sports: Basketball, Baseball, Football, Soccer
Article interests: Using analytics and statistical data to “get it right.” Using that information to answer every day sports questions like “who is the best player in the world?” “Who is the best hitter in baseball?” Making those questions become as much about facts as they are about opinions.
Derek Salvucci

Operations Research Analyst
An OR Analyst in the professional world, I am fascinated by the dynamics of decision making. Out of school I worked in gaming before gracefully landing in the aerospace industry for the foreseeable future. Much of my free time is spent worrying about our planet’s future, space exploration, whether or not Liverpool will win a trophy during my fandom, and trying to understand why the Red Sox traded away Travis Shaw to give roster spots to two players that account for over $40MM in dead payroll.
Sports: Baseball, futbol, Basketball
Article Interests: Rationalizing salary cap and in game decision making, utilizing human bias to your advantage
Jungwoo Sonn
A casual fan turned into a sports fanatic; I have found my calling. Besides advocating that e-sports should be considered under the moniker of “sports”, I love watching as much basketball and football (of the American variety) as possible.
Sports: Basketball, Football, Boxing.
Article interests: Sports politics, and quite honestly anything that has to do with the aforementioned sports.

MD Candidate, UCC School of Medicine
Research Fellow, Yale School of Medicine
My background has coursed through comparative religion, clinical psychology, then medical science. I’ve worked as an animal handler at a zoo and taught conflict mediation through dance to inner city middle schoolers. Unexpected turns of events is the name of this dumb game. That is what has drawn me to sports. I lived an entire, dumb lifespan watching Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS. My passion is baseball, but I’m also interested in dogs, coffee, the NBA and NFL. I’d like to be a team doctor some day, but I’d be just as happy farming pumpkins and watching my patients grow up in some idyllic and quaint town (pumpkins are farmed… right?)
